Meet Our Administration

Kelly Rush

Dr. Kelly Rush, Principal

The Houston County Board of Education appointed Dr. Kelly Rush as principal of the new Langston Road Primary School in December 2022.

“I’m very honored that our school district has given me the opportunity to open Langston Road Primary School,” said Dr. Rush. “I am thrilled that I will be working with some familiar faces as we continue to serve the Langston Road community. It truly is full of the best students and parents in the county.”

Dr. Rush has worked in the District since 2000, beginning as a special education teacher at Eagle Springs Elementary. She served as an Assistant Principal at both Miller Elementary and Matt Arthur Elementary. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Maine, where she also taught first grade, second grade and special education before moving to

Dr. Rush earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University in Georgia. In addition, she has a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University and a Master of Special Education from Central Missouri State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

She and her husband have two sons who both graduated from Houston County High School.

Kayla Shumway

Mrs. Kayla Shumway, Assistant Principal of Instruction

Mrs. Kayla Shumway is a native of Warner Robins, GA and a product of the Houston County School System. After graduating from Houston County High school, she attended Georgia Southern University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. She also received an MEd in Early Childhood Education as well as an EdS in Elementary Education from Georgia Southern University.  

As part of the Houston County School District, she has served as Pre-K Paraprofessional, First Grade Teacher, Third Grade Teacher, and Fifth Grade Teacher. She was awarded Teacher of the Year at Tucker Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. In 2021, she was selected as the Assistant Principal of Discipline at Kings Chapel Elementary School and Langston Road Elementary School.  

She is married to Christopher Shumway. They have one son, William, and two Weimaraners, Maggie and Winnie. 

Curtis Singleton

Curtis Singleton, Assistant Principal of Discipline

Mr. Singleton became the Assistant Principal of Discipline for Langston Road Primary and Elementary in 2023.  Prior to join administration, he was one of the many excellent fifth grade teachers at Langston Elementary School. He has been teaching for many years in Houston County. His experiences include working in grades third to fifth and also providing interventions for students will academic and behavioral needs. Throughout his first years in Houston County, he continued his education achieving his masters and education specialist in Curriculum and Instruction. His passion is to build relationships with students and to model to students that they can succeed with dedication.

As a member of a military family, Singleton can associate his upbringing with being well rounded from robust experiences.  Outside of his vocation, he enjoyed his personal time traveling with his wife, Semline.
